The majority of projects encompassed the implementation of healthcare, logistics, and consumer electronics, so our cross-industry expertise came in handy and allowed our team to help the company facilitate the delivery of tech products.
Our main focus of support was embedded development, smart sensor design, and building security systems that then became part of complex IoT platforms and mobile wireless products. Smart Glucometer Design
Since our team has in-depth experience in the development of digital healthcare solutions, the company first reached out to us for help with a project in this field. In particular, we were involved in the delivery of a smart glucose meter to ensure accurate and easy blood sugar testing and monitoring.
While the client’s team elaborated on the business logic and hardware engineering, our part of the work included the implementation of the embedded UI on a TFT screen. Since it was a small display with limited microcontroller resources, it was a challenge to build a responsive and sleek UI, which required leveraging narrow skills in firmware development and its connection with other product components.
Besides intuitive navigation streamlined with simple fonts, the UI our team has built provides users with the core blood drop test information, shows time, and battery level. It also features multi-language support, allowing users to switch between languages. In order for the glucometer to work smoothly, this firmware had to be integrated with the logic designed by the client’s team to accurately provide data on blood sugar levels.

This first collaboration has resulted in a successful launch of the medical IoT-based product and set the stage for other opportunities to support the client.
Alert System for K9s Security
Even if this project was decided to keep on ice in the middle of the progress, we still want to shed some light on it, as it was centered around a helpful and exciting idea.
The company approached us with the request to refurbish the legacy system their client had used, which was to ensure the safety of police dogs inside a car while being on duty.
That special security system had to enable optimal air temperature sustainability, automatic door opening in case of emergency, and alerts if something threatened the pet’s life. On top of that, the solution needed to be integrated with other car systems to allow for seamless functioning.
Velvetech started to work on a project and completed several stages, such as requirements analysis and functional design specifications, which included elaborating system architecture. Unfortunately, it didn’t go further than that since the initiative was put on pause.
Firmware Development for a Delivery Robot
The client was working to design hardware components for a delivery robot used by one of the largest postal service companies. In light of aggravating circumstances such as unstable network performance, it was necessary to ensure a steady connection and consistent data collection and transfer.
That’s when our team came in. First, we were building a PoC that included designing hardware for two SIM card slots that could support the required connectivity. Once that was done and validated, we moved to another part — implementing firmware and developing an application for an embedded modem to communicate over a TCP connection. The project is ongoing, and our team keeps working to complete it.

Gateway Design for a Personal Care Product
This healthcare-focused project involved Velvetech’s assistance with delivering sensors for adult diapers to help people suffering from incontinence or physical impairment navigate everyday life more simply. In particular, we created a gateway that ensures data flows between sensors and the AWS cloud.
Having years of experience in Python programming, our team developed firmware based on this technology. Besides that, we provided the company with consulting on how to configure the gateway for each hardware model, as there were several of them designed.

Sensors Engineering to Track Shipments
The last project we’d like to highlight here was implementing firmware for devices that were to be built in the intermodal or shipping containers. The goal was to track the location of shipments and monitor parameters like temperature or humidity.
Our engineers worked as an extension of the client’s team and helped deliver a bootstrap module, as well as assisted with environment provisioning and building the connection with Amazon’s cloud.
